BookGeist Age Suitability Policy

1. Rating and purpose of the app

BookGeist is rated 13+ in the App Store. The current official rating is the one displayed on the app listing in each store and may differ by territory.

BookGeist is primarily a personal tool for tracking books, reading sessions, progress, notes, quotations, goals, and statistics. It is not an adult-content app, does not provide a social network or public gallery of user-created content, and violence, weapons, sexual content, and gambling are not part of its main purpose.

The 13+ label describes content suitability. It does not replace any legal consent, capacity, or supervision requirements that may apply in a particular country or the rules of the family account or store being used.

Literature can address themes with different maturity levels. Users decide which books they record and what they write in notes, quotations, reviews, or notebooks. This personal content is not selected or promoted by BookGeist and generally remains on the device unless the user activates a documented feature that requires sending it or chooses to export or share it.

Metadata, covers, or summaries obtained from external catalogues may reflect the content of a particular work. BookGeist does not treat those materials as its own editorial content and does not recommend works based on suitability for a particular age.

3. AI image generation

AI-generated visual references are an optional, user-initiated feature. They are intended to depict characters, places, objects, or atmospheres connected with a reading. The user writes or configures the description, so that input directly influences the result.

BookGeist and its AI providers apply validation, moderation, and safety controls. A request may be accepted or rejected. Even so, no automated system can guarantee that every result will always be appropriate or precisely match the request.

The feature is not designed to generate sexual content, explicit nudity, graphic violence, child exploitation, self-harm, hate, harassment, or images that infringe third-party rights. Some permitted literary requests may occasionally produce fantasy, non-graphic conflict, creatures, or weapons in a narrative context. 4. Users aged 13 to 17

For users under 18, particularly those aged 13 to 17, we recommend:

obtaining permission from a parent or guardian to use connected or AI features where the providers involved require it;
using age-appropriate AI descriptions and not attempting to bypass safety controls;
not including their own or another person’s sensitive personal information in prompts, notes, reports, or images;
not requesting sexual, intimate, humiliating, deceptive, or violent depictions of real people;
stopping generation and reporting the result if an image is unexpected, disturbing, or unsuitable; and
reviewing purchases, subscriptions, and connected features with a responsible adult and using device or store family controls where needed.

A 13+ rating does not mean that every possible output from a generative tool will be suitable for every 13-year-old. Maturity, the context of the work, and the description chosen by the user also matter. BookGeist shares responsibility for reducing risk through its controls; it does not place the entire safety burden on a minor.

In Spain, where processing is based on consent, users under 14 require consent from the holder of parental responsibility or guardianship under Article 7 of the LOPDGDD.

5. Children under 13

The version rated 13+ is not intended for children under 13. Families and guardians should follow the store rating and use the parental controls available on the device and through the Apple or Google account.

BookGeist does not perform documentary age verification. If we identify an issue affecting a minor or receive a report from their legal guardian, we will review it under the Privacy Policy, the Terms and Conditions, and applicable law.

6. Privacy, reporting, and family controls

Core reading-tracker features are local. Connected and AI features process only the information needed to perform the requested action, as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Rating review

We will review this policy and the rating questionnaire when the app’s features, accessible content, AI controls, or store requirements materially change. The current official rating is always the one displayed on BookGeist’s listing in each store.
