Terms and Conditions of Use

1. Identification

These terms govern the use of the BookGeist app (iOS and Android) and the website https://bookgeist.app, owned by Luis González López, Tax ID 12.335.592-W, address Calle San Miguel 13, Bajo. 47400 Medina del Campo (Valladolid), Spain. Support contact: support@bookgeist.app.

The website includes a contact form and an Android beta waitlist; data you submit through them is handled according to the Privacy Policy.

2. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using BookGeist, you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

BookGeist is intended for people aged 13 and over. If you are between 13 and the applicable age of majority, you must use it with any authorization or supervision required by the law of your country and the rules of your family account or store. If you are under 18, you represent that you have permission from your parent or guardian to use connected or AI features where their providers require it. In Spain, if processing is based on your consent and you are under 14, that consent must be given by the holder of parental responsibility or guardianship. The 13+ rating describes content suitability and does not remove those requirements. See the Age Suitability Policy.

3. Description of the service

BookGeist is or may be offered in the following modes:

  • Free: reading tracking with unlimited books and sessions and a basic feature set. Core local features work without an account and primarily offline; optional connected features require a network connection.
  • Classic (one-time purchase): permanent unlock of advanced local features via a single payment through the store. Included local features do not require an account and work primarily offline; optional connected features require a network connection.
  • Lifetime (one-time purchase): permanent access to Studio local tools and the cloud-backup service included with the plan, excluding AI and Stamps. Studio (monthly or annual subscription): the active mode for connected services, AI with Stamps, and ongoing-cost features. Account features require creating an account.
  • Stamp Packs (consumable purchase): usage credits for Studio AI features, purchased through the store when the user needs additional capacity.

The BookGeist account is optional and enables connected features. Core local features do not require an account or mandatory sync.

We may modify, add, or remove features to improve the service. If a modification substantially affects a paid feature, we will communicate it.

4. Accounts

Core local features do not require an account. To use connected features, you may create an account with a verified email or compatible identity provider, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential.

Before creating an account, the Privacy Policy and account-deletion document explain the data processed, authentication, sync, retention, and deletion.

5. Payments, renewals, and refunds

Purchases available in the app are processed through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). We do not receive or handle your payment data.

  • Monthly or annual Studio subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before renewal from your Apple or Google account settings.
  • Refunds are governed by Apple and Google policies and must be requested through them, without prejudice to your consumer rights under Spanish and European law.
  • Prices may change; changes do not affect purchases already made.

6. One-time purchases and subscription: scope

Buying Classic or Lifetime grants you a perpetual, personal license to use the local features included in your plan on your devices. “Forever” means the local license does not expire or turn into a subscription. Lifetime includes the cloud-backup service while BookGeist continues to offer that service, but does not include AI or Stamps. We cannot guarantee the indefinite availability of connected services, compatibility with future versions of iOS or Android or future hardware, or that the app will remain available for new downloads if distribution ends. If a change materially affects a service included in a purchase, we will provide reasonable advance notice where possible and respect applicable consumer rights.

7. Your content

The data you create in BookGeist —books, sessions, notes, notebook, annotations— is yours. We claim no ownership over it. It is stored mainly on your device and leaves it only when you use a documented feature that requires an external service, such as metadata search, covers, purchases, crash telemetry, or AI features, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Use of AI features

When you use AI features, you accept that:

  • You are responsible for the content you submit and for having the right to do so. Do not submit extensive excerpts of copyrighted works.
  • AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies; you should not treat it as exact or error-free.
  • AI-generated images are identified as AI-created.
  • You will not use these features to generate illegal, offensive, or rights-infringing content. You can report inappropriate content from within the app.

9. Account and data deletion

You can delete the account and associated server data through Settings → Account → Delete account, or request deletion using the contact published at bookgeist.app/delete-account. Local data is deleted separately by uninstalling the app or clearing its data from system settings. Scope, retries, and limited retention are described on that page and in the Privacy Policy.

10. Intellectual property

BookGeist, its name, its mascot (Bookito), its design, its code, and its content are owned by Luis González López (Kalapps) or used with authorization and are protected. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license for personal use of the app. You may not copy, decompile, redistribute, or commercially exploit the application.

11. Prohibited conduct

You may not: use the app for illegal purposes; attempt to access our systems without authorization; bypass usage limits or technical protections; disrupt the service; or abuse AI features.

12. Warranties and limitation of liability

BookGeist is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We recommend keeping your own backups of your data.

Nothing in these terms excludes our liability where, under Spanish and European consumer law, it cannot be excluded.

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to server-side features or the Studio subscription in the event of a serious breach of these terms. You may stop using the app and delete your local data at any time.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by Spanish law. As a consumer, you may turn to the courts of your domicile. The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
