Terms and Conditions of Use

1. Identification

These terms govern the use of the BookGeist app (iOS and Android) and the website https://bookgeist.app, owned by Luis González López, Tax ID 12.335.592-W, address Avda. Lope de Vega 10, 47400 Medina del Campo, Spain. Support contact: support@bookgeist.app.

2. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using BookGeist, you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

3. Description of the service

BookGeist is or may be offered in the following modes:

  • Free: basic reading tracking with a book limit. Runs entirely on your device, no account.
  • Pro (one-time purchase): permanent unlock of the full local app —unlimited books and sessions, import and export, additional themes— via a single payment through the store when this mode is active. It is yours forever as described in section 6. No account or connection required.
  • Subscription (planned, not active in the current version): a future mode for features that may require our own servers —sync, cloud backup, advanced AI features, or social features—. When activated, it will require creating an account, and these terms and the Privacy Policy will be updated before public availability.
  • Token Packs (planned, not active in the current version): one-use credits for AI features when available.

In the current version there is no active BookGeist account, no mandatory sync with BookGeist-owned servers, no automatic backup on a BookGeist-owned cloud, and purchases or AI features may be marked as coming soon or temporarily unavailable.

We may modify, add, or remove features to improve the service. If a modification substantially affects a paid feature, we will communicate it.

4. Accounts (only when Subscription is active)

Core local features do not require an account. In the current version there is no active BookGeist login or account.

When a Subscription mode or any feature that requires an account is activated, you will be informed before creating it about the data processed, authentication, sync, retention, and deletion, and the Privacy Policy will be updated. In that case, you will need a valid email or compatible authentication provider and will be responsible for keeping your credentials confidential.

5. Payments, renewals, and refunds

Purchases available in the app are processed through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). We do not receive or handle your payment data.

  • If subscriptions are offered in the future, they will renew automatically unless you cancel before renewal from your Apple or Google account settings.
  • Refunds are governed by Apple and Google policies and must be requested through them, without prejudice to your consumer rights under Spanish and European law.
  • Prices may change; changes do not affect purchases already made.

6. “Pro forever”: scope

Buying Pro, when available, grants you a perpetual, personal license to use the local version of BookGeist on your devices. “Forever” means it does not expire or turn into a subscription. However, we cannot guarantee indefinite compatibility with future versions of iOS or Android or with future hardware, nor that the app will remain available for new downloads if it stops being distributed. Pro does not include future Subscription features or Token Pack credits.

7. Your content

The data you create in BookGeist —books, sessions, notes, notebook, annotations— is yours. We claim no ownership over it. In the current version, it is stored mainly on your device and does not leave it unless you use a documented feature that requires an external service, such as metadata search, covers, purchases, crash telemetry, or AI features when available, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Use of AI features

When AI features are available, by using them you accept that:

  • You are responsible for the content you submit and for having the right to do so. Do not submit extensive excerpts of copyrighted works.
  • AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies; you should not treat it as exact or error-free.
  • AI-generated images are identified as AI-created.
  • You will not use these features to generate illegal, offensive, or rights-infringing content. You can report inappropriate content from within the app.

9. Account and data deletion

In the current version there is no active BookGeist account. You can delete local data by uninstalling the app or clearing its data from system settings. If a BookGeist account is activated in the future, you will be able to request deletion of the account and associated data from the app or at bookgeist.app/delete-account, with the scope described on that page and in the Privacy Policy.

10. Intellectual property

BookGeist, its name, its mascot (Bookito), its design, its code, and its content are owned by Luis González López (Kalapps) or used with authorization and are protected. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license for personal use of the app. You may not copy, decompile, redistribute, or commercially exploit the application.

11. Prohibited conduct

You may not: use the app for illegal purposes; attempt to access our systems without authorization; bypass usage limits or technical protections; overload the infrastructure; or abuse AI features.

12. Warranties and limitation of liability

BookGeist is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We recommend keeping your own backups of your data.

Nothing in these terms excludes our liability where, under Spanish and European consumer law, it cannot be excluded.

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to server-side or Subscription features, when active, in the event of a serious breach of these terms. You may stop using the app and delete your local data at any time.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by Spanish law. As a consumer, you may turn to the courts of your domicile. The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
